Job Summary
Under moderate supervision, prepares material for publication by using Personal Computer (PC)-based work processing and desktop publishing software.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inputs, edits, and completes pre-press preparation of schedules materials and other Metro documents
  • Selects appropriate typefaces, sizes, and heading for the copy to be set
  • Computes scale reductions and enlargements for artwork
  • Lays out and pastes up artwork for printing
  • Abstracts and details scheduling data to format schedule materials
  • Develops computer graphic displays for artwork reproduction
  • Answers inquires on all phases of layout work
  • Maintains computerized and manual files of schedules, Metro forms, and artwork
  • Proofreads work to ensure format integrity
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)
  • Functions and operations of PC-based word processing and desktop publishing software
  • Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Adobe Creative Suite 5, e.g., InDesign and Illustrator
  • Proper use, care, and storage of a PC

Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
  • Performing detailed layout and pasting of artwork
  • Filing materials alphabetically and numerically
  • Proofreading and correcting text for formatting errors
  • Adhering to production standards and deadlines
  • Communicating effectively with others

Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Enter, edit, combine, print, and electronically store text on a PC
  • Deal tactfully and effectively with clients
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Experience
  • Two years of relevant experience performing responsible clerical duties in the production of computerized data, including one year utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite 5 (e.g., InDesign and Illustrator)
