Job Summary

Performs journey-level accessibility activities associated with complaints, statistical analysis, training, advisory committee support, community events, and subrecipient oversight to assist in maintaining Metro′s compliance with federal, state, and local accessibility laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances, and to ensure Metro is serving its customers with disabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participates in the review of accessibility-related complaints filed by customers and community-based organizations regarding Metro′s public transit services and facilities, including completing investigations and resolving grievances from employees and federal and state agencies
  • Conducts outreach to the communities served regarding the accessibility of Metro Services and overall compliance with accessibility regulations
  • Obtains and analyzes data for internally and externally distributed accessibility reports
  • Acts as a liaison with government entities and other organizations
  • Ensures departmental compliance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requirements
  • Provides oversight of Metro′s subrecipients to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Participates in efforts to ensure oversight and compliance of Access Services
  • Develops and conducts training for Operators and other Metro employees regarding best practices for serving customers with disabilities
  • Provides technical assistance on accessibility regulations to all Metro departments and for reporting to federal and state agencies on Metro accessibility issues
  • Coordinates internal and external responses to accessibility inquiries and concerns
  • Follows up to ensure timely input by Metro departments for reports on accessibility issues to federal agencies
  • Implements efforts to ensure that all Metro communications and publications meet accessibility communication requirements
  • Implements efforts designed to promote the safe use of Metro services by customers with disabilities
  • Facilitates efforts associated with the Metro Accessibility Advisory Committee
  • Conducts design reviews and site visits of Metro and subrecipient facilities (existing and under construction) by reviewing their compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable government regulations
  • Participates in roundtable and committee meetings regarding ADA issues related to reasonable accommodation within Metro′s facilities and transportation systems
  • Assists in federal and state audits by providing requested data and documentation and information related to Metro's policies and procedures
  • Provides guidance, coaching, and training to new or junior staff in area of expertise
  • Maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all of Metro′s safety rules, policies, and procedures
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education

  • Bachelor′s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Planning, Social Work, Communications, or a related field; Master's Degree in a related field preferred


Experience

  • One year of relevant experience ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) or civil rights laws, or experience administering compliance of projects or programs in the public transportation industry; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment


Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements

  • California Certified Accessibility Specialists (CalCASP) Certification preferred

  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
