Job Summary

Provides complex technical support in the implementation of Metro′s Maintenance and Materiel Management System (M3), including ensuring that all system users are properly set up, trained, and supported; that all issues are addressed in a timely and effective manner; and that the system and associated business processes are continually upgraded and improved as business needs are identified and evolve.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans and manages the development, implementation, and technical support of the Maintenance and Materiel Management System (M3) in assigned Sector and/or Strategic Business Units (SBU)
  • Ensures that payroll module is successfully completed for all system users
  • Initiates system upgrades and enhancements based on system user requests and recommendations
  • Consults with user Sector Divisions and SBUs to clarify and solve M3 development needs and problems; establishes priorities and schedules to ensure user satisfaction
  • Leads internal work teams, task forces, and consultants to solve M3 problems and identify requirements and enhancements
  • Develops, upgrades, and implements policies, standard operating procedures, and user processes as necessary to ensure successful M3 performance across Metro
  • Represents Metro with outside vendors responsible for system maintenance and upgrades
  • Provides input to consultants regarding M3 needs and acceptability of alternatives
  • Identifies, monitors, and evaluates M3 performance to ensure alignment with Metro′s strategic goals and all applicable rules and regulations
  • Prepares cost/benefit analysis and other justifications resulting from M3 evaluation to purchase related products and services that will improve productivity and performance
  • Designs advanced decision support tools and models used for decision making
  • Prepares systems training manuals and technical systems documentation
  • Prepares comprehensive reports and correspondence
  • Conducts M3 training
  • Communicates and implements safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of the agency′s safety vision and goals; and maintains accountability for the safety performance of all assigned employees

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:


  • Bachelor′s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field; Master′s Degree in a related field preferred


  • Three years of relevant experience providing systems support and designing complex information systems; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment; experience in mass transit systems preferred

Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements

  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
