LEAD EQUIPMENT RECORDS SPECIALIST

Job Summary
Under moderate supervision, maintains equipment inventory and activity records, assigns equipment, and schedules maintenance and inspections while leading Equipment Records Specialists. A Leader receives additional pay for each hour worked as stipulated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Checks yard and other storage areas to determine the location, condition, and availability of buses and other Metro equipment
  • Assigns coaches to bus runs and posts assignments on pull-out, cover and tripper sheets, noting any changes which have occurred
  • Receives and records information on maintenance calls from Transit Operations Supervisors
  • Communicates and relays messages to appropriate maintenance supervisor
  • Assists Warranty Department on tracking warranties and generating reports
  • Arranges for coach transfers with other operating divisions
  • Schedules equipment inspections and oil analyses
  • Operates computer to enter, maintain, and update records pertaining to equipment service, maintenance, and inspection intervals, service calls, fire extinguisher locations, lock and key control, non-revenue vehicles, and other related documents
  • Posts bulletin boards and answers telephone and/or two-way radio calls
  • Leads employees by assigning work and providing training
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General office practices and procedures
  • Complex recordkeeping
  • Functions and operations of computer terminals and peripheral equipment
  • Basic math
  • Applicable business software applications

  • Creating reports
  • Establishing and maintaining detailed recordkeeping systems
  • Prepares and schedules maintenance for the equipment (busses, trains, etc.)
  • Memorizing and accurately transcribing numbers with speed and accuracy
  • Memorizing division bus lines
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing
  • Maintaining effective working relationships

Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education
  • None Required

Experience
Two years of relevant experience performing responsible clerical recordkeeping, inventory control, scheduling, or dispatching duties
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
  • Valid California Class C Driver License
  • New employees must pass a specialized training program for these positions
