Job Summary
Under moderate supervision, trains, assigns, monitors, and reviews tasks performed by work crew and operates printing services equipment to provide Metro information internally and to the public.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates and leads employees in operating printing or photolithographic equipment
  • Assigns, monitors, and reviews work of assigned shift employees and ensures conformance with production schedules
  • Provides training and orientation to employees on new equipment and safety practices; responds to questions from personnel on operation of equipment
  • Ensures that adequate paper stock is available for print jobs, plates are ready for presses, and machines have sufficient ink; orders supplies when needed
  • Assists personnel in resolving minor equipment problems
  • Makes service calls to vendors for repair of equipment
  • Directs staff on actions to take during emergency situations according to instructions received from direct and indirect supervisory staff or fire, police, or other safety personnel
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)
  • Methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures utilized in printing work
  • Leadership techniques

Skill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)
  • Use of printing equipment, including operating photolithographic equipment and large and single-color and four-color offset presses
  • Safely operating printing equipment
  • Communicating effectively with others
  • Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Planning and overseeing completion of work according to established priorities
  • Identifying and using appropriate materials, such as paper, ink, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

  • None Required

  • Five years of relevant experience operating photolithographic processing cameras and related equipment; Or
  • Five years of relevant experience operating large single-color and two-color offset presses and four-unit presses
